Dyspnea noun difficult or laboured breathing. The sordid world seeps in steeped in its heavy humid ways through a circle, cut in glass so there is no window, closed or open. An hourglass, descending through the turgid day, the sand pouring down, down, down into what? Something. Thick and desperate smog leaves sickly yellow layers on languid and discarded thoughts that lost their innocence long ago. With smokers’ lungs and stinging eyes I lift my hand – still alive – and let my body linger where it lies. (2 pearls of wisdom | enlighten me) | | Saturday, June 16th, 2007 | | 2:39 am |
Chains The unhinged door lies dormant in the shady haze of his domain; diaries and journals lie tattered and abused in a room cluttered with his childhood; change waits in broken banks to fund his wandering existence while a paper bag contains the remnants of wooden cities, built high just to be torn down. She Has Light Ways She has light ways, like water, soft, and windy hard. It is not by grace nor folly that makes her so, for she is made of moonlight and dew. (enlighten me) | | Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 | | 9:43 pm |
To a Willow Tree in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Wisdom found in each drooping branch, nestled in the beard of an old man who stands stooped but firm at the edge of the world... (cascading) ...surrounded by the speeding monuments of the living - above, below, around and through - that infringe upon the slabbed stones of the dead; past the Eaton mausoleum where men bring their excesses, and lions keep their secrets, to the grave. (cas- cad- ing) What memories and tears of long ago romances and funereal rites have you etched into your bark and drunk into your roots? This is our waterfall of cascading leaves that do not drown us but embrace us as in the arms and sighs of a hundred friends and lovers. Oh, wily willow tree, rain your wiry willowed branches down on me. (enlighten me) | | 9:41 pm |
Procession Yellow paper lanterns guide our way; our bare feet feel chalky on the dirt path. To others, we must look like ghosts, yet the hand I feel in mine is real, and earnest. We smile at each other as our feet reach the grass, wet with dew. The lanterns and the world grow dim, as fate, conquered, fades to a darkness darker than night. These Words In the morning, crisp and warming light splays across the bedroom ease the numbness beckon forth these words I speak will mean something In the afternoon damp and asthma heat sheaths our bodies stickily passion serves us and renews us these words I speak will mean something In the evening starlit moonshine bath cradles and protects us the future’s blindness the dying light these words I speak might mean something In the sleepless hour high frequency whining knifes through the silence eyes go blurry and tilt down those words I spoke you have forgotten perhaps tomorrow’s words will mean something (enlighten me) | | Sunday, May 20th, 2007 | | 5:14 am |
Change Across the expanse of our transaction – two quarters, a dime, and a nickel – my fingertips dance upon your palm like raindrops on an open flower. I dare not look up for fear of your indifference. (2 pearls of wisdom | enlighten me) | | Saturday, May 19th, 2007 | | 10:21 pm |
The Weaning I try to remove your name from my lips and sear away any trace of sweet poison from my tongue, for there is a direct line from my lips to my heart, and while my lips and heart deceive me, my mind knows, though is stubborn. (1 pearl of wisdom | enlighten me) |
